Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy is an innovative way to bring patients pain relief jumpstart the body’s own healing processes.

PRP injections use tissues from your platelets to stimulate the growth of new cells. Because these tissues come from your blood, there is a higher probability of success compared to tissues from outside sources.

Some of the areas PRP therapy treats includes:

  • Tendons
  • Ligaments
  • Muscles
  • Joints

While success is not always guaranteed, the chances of long-term improvement can be significantly greater than with other short-term injection treatments.

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy

Here’s how it works:

  • Our team at Blue Ridge Pain Management will draw a small sample of blood from your arm to extract PRP.
  • Once your PRP has been separated from the rest of your blood, the doctor will administer the PRP into multiple areas around the problem area. The goal here is to stimulate a natural healing process.
  • The procedure itself only takes about 30 minutes to complete, and after 48 hours of rest, you may resume normal activities.
