Injections into the cervical, lumbar, and thoracic facet joints are a relatively simple procedure, that is performed in our office. Using X-Ray guidance, medicine to numb the area and reduce inflammation are injected directly into the joints that cause your pain. The procedure only takes a few minutes and the benefits are numerous.

Sedation is not typically needed, but oral medications can be provided in some cases.

At Blue Ridge Pain Management, facet injections into the cervical, lumbar, or thoracic regions begin by thoroughly numbing the injection site. Then with the help of X-Ray guidance, one of our interventional pain management physicians places a dosing needle and injects a contrast dye that confirms that the medication will be properly administered into the facet joint. After the therapeutic medication has been delivered, the dosing needle is removed, and the injection site is cleaned and covered.

Neuromodulation

The procedure only takes a few minutes and the benefits are numerous. Some of these benefits include:

  • Pain relief in the affected areas. Individuals plagued with arthritis or chronic injuries to their facet joints benefit greatly, as the medication administered helps reduce inflammation and block pain receptors.
  • Greater range of motion. Many individuals who receive facet injections experience increased range of motion, at least temporarily, over and above their previous levels.
  • Confirming diagnosis. When facet injects work to block your pain, doctors are better able to determine the root cause of your problems.
Facet Injections

As is the case with almost all procedures, there is slight risk associated with facet joint injections. For more information on how facet injections can and should affect you, please call Blue Ridge Pain Management, at 828-350-9310.
