Dr. Buzzanell believes in treating the mind, body, and spirit as a whole. His philosophy revolves around the belief that controlling chronic pain requires a multidisciplinary approach. He likes to look at all the aspects of suffering to find a lasting solution.
His interest in relieving pain was stirred at a very early age. Watching his Irish grandmother serve the family elders in the last years of their lives piqued his passion and guided his career path. Known to his staff and patients as Dr. Buzz, he is a compassionate man who finds true joy in helping people. When you’re around Dr. Buzz, you can see it in his eyes; his compassion is palpable.
After graduating from the Georgetown University School of Medicine in 1984, Dr. Buzzanell completed his anesthesiology residency training at the National Naval Medical Center with fellowship training in pain management at the Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. He holds board certifications in Pain Management and Anesthesiology through the American Board of Anesthesiology.
Before he became Dr. Buzz, he was Director of the Pain Control Clinic at the National Naval Medical Center and served in Desert Storm. He left the Navy after 12 years of honorable service in 1992. Following that, he became an assistant professor and Director of the Georgetown University Pain Management Fellowship Program. He also served as assistant professor with the New York Medical College at St. Vincent’s Hospital in New York City.
While training in Wake Forest, Dr. Buzzanell traveled west and fell in love with Asheville. He returned in 2004 to start Blue Ridge Pain Management. He now pursues his dedication to help patients with chronic pain regain function in their lives through pain reduction techniques, life coaching, and rehabilitation. During his off hours, Dr. Buzz enjoys hiking, biking, and photography.
